Under perfect rugby weather and in front of a fantastic crowd in Krems, Stade Rugby opened their league season against the strong combined team of Linz/Wachau. Despite several injuries and the absence of key players, the team showed great spirit, determination, and teamwork right from the start.
In his league debut, Marco Trentini scored an impressive try that brought Stade into the lead by halftime. The game remained competitive throughout, with both teams giving their all in every phase. Linz/Wachau managed to turn the game aroundin the second half, showing strong cohesion, but Stade continued to fight until the final whistle. The match ended 29–17, leaving positives to build on for the upcoming fixtures.
Head Coach Bogdan M. said after the game:
“In front of a great crowd and under perfect rugby weather, the boys started their first league game with real focus. Despite injuries and missing key players, they came into the game strongly. Marco Trentini scored in his league debut, putting us in the lead by halftime. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fully execute our game plan and got drawn too much into individual battles, which cost us the win. However, we set out to play 80 minutes of rugby — and that’s exactly what the boys did. Now we need to bring more structure before next Saturday.”
Assistant Coach Marko V. added:
“The team delivered beautiful rugby when applying the game plan. The difficult part is to keep applying it despite the pressure from the opposition. It's a defeat that can paradoxically bring us a lot, because it shows us that we can trust our rugby and aim high when playing with enough calm, maturity, and structure.”
