Gents Claim Bronze in Thrilling Battle Against Novi Zagreb – 28:29 Victory!

On Saturday, April 26th, 2025, the Stade Rugby Gents travelled to Zagreb to face Novi Zagreb Rugby in the battle for 3rd place in the Alpe Adria Competition. The stakes were high, the weather unforgiving, and the journey long — but our boys were determined not to return home empty-handed.

Under a grey, rain-soaked sky, the match unfolded into a gripping contest that had everything rugby fans could wish for: heavy tackles, slick handling despite the muddy conditions, and a dramatic scoreline. The game was tightly contested from the first whistle to the final kick, with both teams exchanging tries and penalties. In the end, it was Stade Rugby who edged out their hosts with a nail-biting 28:29 victory, sealing the bronze medal in true warrior fashion.

Head Coach Bogi reflected proudly on the performance:
"Usually when we arrive in Eastern Europe on a muddy pitch, it is going to be a difficult day in the office. But today was different. From the beginning, the will to play was there. The boys, despite the conditions being stacked against them, fought for every possession with Aron’s boot punishing the opponent for every mistake. A good adaptation on the unusual lineout allowed us to launch attacks off the fringes, which resulted in some beautiful team tries. I am happy to see not just some boys finding their game, but the whole team fighting as a unit instead of waiting for individual moments of brilliance! And this was even more felt on the bus ride back home!"

Assistant Coach Marko added:
"The boys showed a lot of heart in tough conditions to bring back home the bronze medal. It is a crowning not only for those on the pitch on that day but also for all who couldn't be here because of injuries, family issues or whatever else. That place on the league podium is the result of the entire team's work during the whole season."

This victory marks a memorable close to an intense season, and the bronze medal is a testament to the unity, passion, and progress of our Gents squad. Stade Rugby is proud — and hungry for more.
